Welcome

Indigenous Community Support Organization (ICSO) works in solidarity with the indigenous people (IP) to better their quality of life, ensuring they live in a peaceful, free and just society. We wish to ensure all IP communities are free from poverty and are able to access their basic social, economic and cultural rights.

To achieve this, ICSO contributes important resources, pilot new initiatives and models partnership approaches with the government, communities, donors and the private sector. From 2007-2009, we experimented with the most effective and efficient way to support IP working groups. We developed some exciting initiatives which best support out IP community empowerment approach. In mid-2009, the ICSO Governance Board and Executive Body began reflecting on our progress to develop ICSO’s long term strategic plan.

We have the deepest respect for the diverse culture and traditions of IPs within Cambodia and aim to work together to harmonize relations between ICSO stakeholders in Cambodia, with many different development strategies and program approaches, working to improve the lives of Indigenous People, other minorities and Khmer people. It has been a privilege to serve the IP networks and stakeholders within Cambodia, encouraging them to support each other and build their capacity to work out their community’s issues.

We also wish to extend our sincerest appreciation all funding agencies, coalition NGOs, the ICSO governance board members and all ICSO staff for their commitment and service to ICSO, facing challenges with great cooperation, collaboration and dedication. Thank you in particular to our funding agencies; their support and encouragement now, in the past and in the future, has made all the difference in enabling us to support IP communities.

There still remain many challenges ahead for ICSO in Cambodia in the face of a rapidly growing and changing Cambodian society. ICSO believes in the collective strength of IPs and NGOs networking together for the development of human rights and democracy in Cambodia, for improving governance and law enforcement, and for making government socially accountable. ICSO is considering all of these issues in our formation of the next Strategic Plan.

With heartfelt thanks and warm regards, we wish you all the best.

As the IP networks get stronger, wider networks between grassroots-level developing communities in Cambodia and international organizations are developing. We are truly honored to have been entrusted to represent IP communities in the development cooperation dialogues with the Royal Government of Cambodia, INGOs, LNGOs, UN Agencies, international donors and private sector organizations.
